S2DS 2015

Science to Data Science (S2DS) is a five-week workshop in London that trains analytical PhDs and scientists in the skills needed to be hired into data science roles. Fellows accepted into the program will learn by doing and teams will work in groups to complete real-life big data problems. The curriculum also includes 30 hours of lecture in topics like professional development and business skills.

S2DS 2015 edition will run from August 3 – September 4. I am one of the 80 (or so) participants chosen for this workshop. It would be an fascinating opportunity to work on a real-life project in a team of like-minded and enthusiastic individuals.

Some statistics of S2DS 2015 cohort:

  • Gender – 68% male, 32% female
  • Nationality – 22 nationalities: 29% British, 11% Italian, 10% USA, 9% Spanish, 6% each of Dutch and German, as well as French, Bulgarian, Chinese, Iranian, Irish, Polish, Chilean, Austrian, Luxembourg, Portugese, Macedonian, Canadian, Columbia, Hong Kong, Russia, Australia.
  • Background – 27% Physics, 22% Astronomy, 11% Mathematics, 7% Engineering, 6% Neuroscience as well as Computational Biology, Computer Science, Psychology, Earth Sciences, Sociology, Economics, Linguistics etc.
